About the Conference

How do colleges and schools of pharmacy ensure that their graduates have the knowledge and skills to serve as medication use experts? Health systems around the world must prepare for patient populations that are aging and where the incidence of chronic illness is growing. Medication use is the most cost-effective tool for managing acute and chronic disease and pharmacists can ensure appropriate prescribing and patient management. This requires that pharmacy curricula prepare graduates who are patient-oriented and who possess communications skills suitable to their changing roles in health care.

This program is designed to help teams of 3 to 5 pharmacy faculty members and administrators from a university work together to identify opportunities for curricular change. Expert faculty will lead participants through exercises to identify gaps in current didactic and experiential coursework, construct objectives for new educational experiences, and design new models of teaching and learning. Each team will return to their institution with plans for implementing curricular change that meet the local needs of their health system.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the workshop participants (teams/individuals) shall be able to:

  • Match different pedagogical approaches with desired student learning outcomes.
  • Increase program cohesiveness through alignment of assessments, course objectives, and program outcomes.
  • Create plans for local curricular change for introduction to home institutions.
